I am a lower limb primary and revision arthroplasty Surgeon in Chichester, West Sussex and Portsmouth, Hampshire
I specialise in joint replacements with the most common cause being for arthritis of the hip or knee.
Revision joint replacements are performed when the original replacement needs re doing
and this can be for a variety of reasons.
I qualified from Bristol University Medical School in 1999 having also gained a BSc in
Anatomical Science during my medical degree.
After house jobs, anatomy demonstrating and junior surgical jobs in Bristol and the South
West I successfully completed my specialist registrar training in Wessex gaining FRCS
(Tr&Orth) in 2008.
During my training I developed a passion for lower limb arthroplasty and in particular Hip
Surgery. I was lucky enough to gain a fellowship in the World renowned unit in Exeter at the
Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre. This unit is internationally known and renowned for
the development of the extremely successful Exeter Hip, the most used cemented Hip
replacement world wide. During my year in Exeter I was lucky enough to work with the
highly skilled surgeons and wider team where I developed my skills in primary hip
replacement surgery as well as revision procedures including the use of bone impaction
grafting, a technique developed in Exeter and Nijmegen for reconstructing bone defects in
revision cases.
Following my year in Exeter I spent six months at the Nuffield Orthopeadic centre in Oxford
working in the Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Unit where I gained experience in Tumour and
reconstructive surgery. In addition I was involved in Revision arthroplasty reconstructive
techniques. Oxford has a Bone Infection unit and takes complex infected arthroplasty cases
form the surrounding area. Whilst working in the NOC I developed an interest in Infected
Arthroplasty management and now work very closely with Orthopaedic Microbiologists
in managing these complex cases.
I worked as a consultant at St Richards Hospital, Chichester, Western Sussex NHS
Trust (WSHT) from July 2011 until September 2020.
and in September 2020 took up a new post in Revision Hip and Knee Arthroplasty at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth
I have been practicing at the Chichester Nuffield since 2013.
