What is a Joint Replacement

A joint replacement or Arthroplasty removes the worn out joint cartilage and replaces it with prosthetic parts that then mimic a natural joint.

Joint replacements can be made from different materials but always use medically approved materials such as metals, hard wearing plastics (polyethylene) and ceramics.

There are many different implant companies who manufacturer joint replacements and different surgeons will have different practices based on their training.
